The book documents fundamental research into overtone practice and polyphonic playing on the violoncello and has become a key reference in the field of contemporary cello techniques. It is regarded as a conceptual precursor to John Cage’s composition ONE8 for solo cello, written in close collaboration with Michael Bach and dedicated to him.
