John Cage: One8 for solo cello
Original recording performed by Michael Bach
Mode Records, New York
The book is dedicated to John Cage and documents Michael Bach’s fundamental studies of overtone techniques and polyphonic playing on the violoncello. These studies formed an important basis for Cage’s work on One8, which was created in close collaboration with Michael Bach.
The combination of book and CD brings together the theoretical, technical and practical dimensions of this work: the book presents the principles and musical ideas behind the new approach to cello playing, while the recording provides a direct experience of the resulting sound world in John Cage’s One8.
A special edition for those interested in John Cage, contemporary cello playing, overtone techniques, polyphony and the development of new instrumental techniques.
